The Yellow Barge Weather Station is the property of the Department of Defense. The station is sponsored by the Naval Sea Systems Command, maintained and operated Acoustic Research Detachment (ARD) of the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) located in Bayview, Idaho.

The weather station provides conditions in the vicinity of the Navy's Yellow Barge Haul Down Facility in Scenic Bay on Lake Pend Oreille, Idaho. This information is used by scientists and engineers to determine the best times to conduct acoustic measurments and when to retrieve and deploy experimental equipment.
